SSL certificate checker
Enter a website to see when its SSL certificate expires, how many days are left, who issued it and which TLS version it uses. An expired certificate puts a full-page "Your connection is not private" warning in front of every visitor, so it's worth knowing the date before it becomes an emergency.
Questions
What happens when an SSL certificate expires?
Browsers show a full-page security warning instead of your site, and most visitors leave. Forms and checkouts stop working for anyone who doesn't click past the warning, and search engines may drop the site's pages.
How long are SSL certificates valid for?
Free certificates from Let's Encrypt last 90 days and are meant to renew automatically. Paid certificates are getting shorter too: under the CA/Browser Forum's schedule the maximum dropped to 200 days in March 2026 and falls to 47 days by 2029, which makes automatic renewal essential.
My certificate renews automatically. Why check it?
Auto-renewal fails more often than people expect: a DNS change, a moved site or an expired hosting plan can quietly stop it. Checking the date takes seconds and tells you whether renewal is actually happening.
What does the TLS version mean?
It's the version of the encryption protocol the connection used. TLS 1.2 and 1.3 are current and secure. Anything older is outdated and should be turned off on the server.
